The South Park County Fair

The first South Park County Fair was held in 1933 and the last one took place in the late 1960's, as agriculture in Allegheny County declined.

The fairs attracted over 500,000 visitors a year and provided an endless parade of shows. In 1947, the Pittsburgh Press reported that there were 75,000 free seats available at the Fairgrounds.

In addition to agricultural exhibits, the fairs have hosted everything from rodeos, polo, harness racing, circuses, fireworks, boxing, professional and nonprofessional entertainment to water follies, mermaids, chariot races, and even a talking tea kettle!

If you have any special memories or photos of  the old county fairs. we would love to hear about them.  Please email us at southparkfriends@southparkfriends.org and we will include them on this page.

Below you will find more information on the fairs that took place throughout the years. We will be adding additional items of interest throughout the month of June so check back often.  Enjoy!
